Outdoor Family Photography

It can get a little tricky with the weather when it comes to outdoor family photography. Whether the sun is shining or the rain has dampened the ground, we will adapt to, and embrace the conditions to produce the beautiful photos which you should have of your beautiful family! The sun isn’t always going to co-operate but some of our stunning photography has been produced in cloudy, windy, even rainy days.

Our favourite place for outdoor family photography is down at the beach. Kids require minimal equipment to keep them occupied at the beach as they’ll be entertained with the infinite amount of sand, seashells and seawater lapping at their feet. We’ll still suggest you take down some sand toys for your little sand-digging enthusiasts. The beach works for sunny or cloudy days. For sunny days, we avoid the harsh sun and head out at sunset for a softer, more forgiving light. If you’re lucky, the sky will be lit up in beautiful shades of orange or pink – which doesn’t always happen!

Melbourne beaches – Ideal for family photographers

For this particular photoshoot, we headed down to Half Moon Bay as it’s one of our favourite Melbourne beaches to take families down to as there is such a variety of spots to photograph at! We headed down there on a beautifully warm day at sunset, which unfortunately meant that nearly every inch of the beach was taken up! Everyone was out to enjoy the sunset as well. Fortunately, we know that to one side of Half Moon Bay, there aren’t so many people due to the rock formation there. This rock formation is fabulous for photos and it was easy to avoid the few people who were hanging around.

Little Felix was kept pretty happy and occupied, constantly exploring the beach. Young children never stay still for too long, so it’s just running along with them and capturing their little antics. He was happy to occupy himself in the sand when I took some time to photograph his parents alone. When he saw that his parents were giving each other too much attention, the little character wanted in on the action too and created some very funny moments for me to capture.

Our session didn’t end there! A friend brought down his stand-up paddleboard and everyone enjoyed some time frolicking and floating around in the warm sea. Look here for more pics.

Styling a family photoshoot

Being a Melbourne family photographer, I take it upon myself to help my clients with styling. Clothing and colours are important for any chosen location to produce photos that are not only fun, but they are also stylish and harmonious. This family was kept pretty casual, and we worked around Martina’s dress when it came to styling the boys. We picked the colours from the dress and went with that. The main aim is not to clash patterns or colours. Florals and stripes clash. Too many different patterns are not great either. It all draws too much away from what the focus should be on – the family.

Getting ready … wedding preparations.

It’s always exciting when the bride gets ready at the parents’ house. So much flair and atmosphere make wedding photography in Elwood a pleasure. All the little items with memories and maybe even your old childhood room is still there. You are usually a bundle of nerves and excitement on your wedding day. A familiar environment will help you to calm down and relax.

It was a pleasure to photograph in this house. The furniture and decorations are just magnificent and a beautiful start for this wedding. There was plenty of time for the bride and bridal team to sip some champagne and enjoy the morning with family and friends.

Wedding ceremony at St Columba’s Church in Elwood.

The ceremony was held in a church near the beach at St Columba’s Church in Elwood. The groom was already waiting at the church when the wedding guests started to arrive. A little bit nervous … but he didn’t show it. Unfortunately, we were not allowed upstairs on the balcony to photograph. But the church was big enough and as photographers, we had plenty of other perspectives to capture.

Elwood Wedding Photographer – Let’s go to the beach

Elwood, Brighton, St Kilda. All Melbourne suburbs which are famous for beach wedding photography. Lots of wonderful spots and you usually always find an empty spot, especially on a colder day. And of course, there are the famous spots such as Green Point, the Brighton beach boxes and Point Ormond.

Despite the weather change – it got really windy and cloudy – we headed to Point Ormond. Some beers … another champagne to celebrate and relax. After enjoying the amazing Melbourne city views we ventured down to the beach and rocks to give them some time to reflect. They just got hitched. All the excitement of the morning and ceremony falls off and you can enjoy every minute now.  The couple was so in love and it was easy to photograph the two. We just ignored the clouds, waves and the wind …

Elwood Bathers – Elwood Wedding Photography

Then function was held in the stylish wedding venue directly at the beach at Elwood Bathers (previously known as Sails on the Bay). And what a location is it to sit behind the glass windows overlooking the beach and bay.  And suddenly you don’t care anymore how cold it is outside. The view is always magnificent.

Lots of dancing, fun speeches, great music and the food was delicious. A perfect wedding day!

Of course, you get the beach and the pier. Alternatively, you can have a walk at Fitzroy Street or catch a tram. Visit Luna park or have a coffee in one of the trendy places there.

The beaches of Albert Park and Port Melbourne are close and offer plenty of options. There are iconic locations as the princess pier or just the plan trees along Beaconsfield parade which provide a perfect backdrop for your St Kilda Beach Wedding photography.

Luxury Weddings in Melbourne – MLC Kew

The bride and groom decided to get ready at the families private homes. We always like this as it adds a bit of a personal touch. An emotional and touching ceremony was held at the MLC college in Kew. We did a few wedding family photos there and opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate with the bridal team. The cork nearly hit the camera and we had lots of fun at the stunning location. The old buildings combined with the luxury cars – Rolls Royce and Jaguar gave us a luxury classic wedding backdrop.

St Kilda Beach Wedding Photography

Change of scene! We made our way to St Kilda were the wedding function was held at Encore, St Kilda. The wedding venue is directly at the beachfront and makes a perfect location for a stunning beach wedding. After the classic and luxury of the leafy suburb of Kew, it was a welcoming contrast to photograph the couple at the beach.

St Kilda Beach Wedding photography is not easy. St Kilda Pier is usually busy at sunset but there is always some empty spot to find to take beautiful beach wedding photos. As wedding photographers, we just love the beauty and simplicity of the beach. Perfect for our wonderful couple.

Encore is a stylish and modern wedding venue at the beach in St Kilda. Great food and perfect service make it one of the first choices for beach weddings.

Melbourne Suburbs for Beach Wedding Photography

There are plenty of other Melbourne suburbs which would be ideal for beach wedding photography. Close to the CBD are Port Melbourne, Albert Park and St Kilda. Than you have the luxurious locations of Elwood, Brighton (Point green and the Beach boxes are well known wedding photography locations close to the beach), Hampton down to Sandringham.

Black Rock is a wonderful beach wedding location. When you go even further south east you get more secluded beaches and have lots of space – Chelsea, Carrum Downs or Seaford are some examples.

But don’t forget the other side of the town – Williamstown and Altona are perfect for beach wedding photography. Melbourne has definitely more to offer than just St Kilda beach wedding photography. So many beautiful beaches to chose from. Enjoy your beach wedding.

Melbourne Beach Wedding Photography

Less hectic than the beaches in Brighton, St Kilda and Albert Park make a perfect backdrop for a romantic beach photography session. We always hope for a sunny day with a few clouds – not too hot and this time we just had the perfect weather. When the venue is close to the beach it’s usually no problem to just go for a quick beach walk and relax a bit … escape the wedding and go on a mini elopement on the beach – just the bride and groom.

But let us start at the beginning …

Stunning Beach Wedding

It’s a French – Australian love. The couple lives in Paris, France – French bride – Australian groom :-). They both got ready close to the beach … in a very different type of environment. Some AFL footy for the guys … some luxurious french champagne in style for the girls. A perfect fit!

The wedding gown was just stunning – hand made by the grandmother. French chic! OMG! A dream wedding dress which just suits the bride perfectly.

The wedding ceremony was directly located on the pier. The harsh sun is always a big problem here – so it is advisable to try to have the light from the back – otherwise, you will constantly blink and blinded and will not be able to enjoy the wedding. The wedding decoration was kept simple and suited a beach wedding in Melbourne – you just need some sand, the water and a beautiful couple. The father walked with his daughter across the beach to the pier where the groom was awaiting his bride.

Empty beaches make beach wedding photography in Melbourne a bit easier – and as we have a lot of beaches there is enough space for everyone.  Simple lines and a clean beach is something which we love photographing! A walk in the sand. Barefoot. Fun. Luxury.

A photo prop like an oversized balloon helps to forget the camera (ah well … this couple was just so in love that they forgot the surrounds completely) and makes for wonderful images. Stylish and simple – clean lines is what makes Melbourne beach wedding photography so special. As you never can plan the weather you need to stay flexible and get the best light (we will help you plan your day!).

Melbourne Bayside – Wedding Photography

The function was lots of fun at the Carrum Bowling Club … plenty of dancing, drinks, laughter. The guests enjoyed themselves and celebrated until deep in the night. And in true French tradition there was, of course, an after-party in the city. Yeah … in Europe you don’t stop a wedding party at midnight that is where you just get started.
