Nora & Luca – Short but sweet
Melbourne City Wedding Photographer
Photographing a weekday wedding – Melbourne City Wedding Photography
We usually photograph full day weddings in Melbourne. This time we got a little bit of a different request. Most weddings happen on Friday, Saturday or Sunday – so it was quite unusual for us to get a wedding enquiry for a Monday lunchtime wedding. The wedding couple was from overseas (Switzerland) and were enjoying their last few weeks in Melbourne after 12 months of working here.
They decided at the “last minute” to get married in Melbourne, as it was a much cooler idea than getting married in Switzerland. With the Alps as their backdrop, including the Matterhorn, it would just be too much of a cliché. They suddenly needed a Melbourne City Wedding Photographer and contacted us. Being from Germany, it was a great way to get some practice in my german language skills while photographing a wedding. It sounded like great fun so we took on the job of photographing this wedding.
Nora and Luca only had two days left in Melbourne before flying back to Europe. We couldn’t imagine a better end to their Australian adventure than to tie the knot here in our beautiful city of Melbourne.
Getting Ready in the Intercontinental – Wedding Photographer in the Melbourne CBD
The lovely couple got ready together in their hotel room in the Intercontinental at The Rialto. This is one of Melbourne’s best hotels with a very interesting layout and wonderful architecture. The old building with the modern touches gave us lots of opportunities for some great wedding photos. As the couple had travelled through Australia before their wedding day in Melbourne, they had lots of luggage (you might spot some luggage scales in the photos) sitting around so it was a bit of a challenge to find all the wedding accessories in the morning!
It’s not common for a wedding couple to get ready at the same place together. With weddings, you don’t necessarily have to stick with tradition. It’s your big day so you create the rules to suit you!
Wedding Photography in the Treasury Gardens, Melbourne
After enjoying some time in the hotel we ventured in a BMW limousine to the Treasury Gardens & Fitzroy Gardens which are near the Melbourne Wedding registry office. We had a fun time shooting wedding photos within the parks of Melbourne. We had the bride and groom walk past the Observatory, open a bottle of champagne and playing hide and seek in the park. We made sure that there was some quiet time for sitting still to enjoy the beautiful Melbourne city skyline.
There usually are lots of wedding photographers at the Treasury Gardens, there to photograph their couples. Sometimes you need to queue up to get a turn at the popular spots. Nothing like that was happening on a Monday morning. We were challenged by the Japanese tourists who wanted to take pictures of us and trying to photobomb the wedding photos! They did not succeed. 🙂
A small and fun wedding in the Melbourne Registry Office
It was actually the smallest wedding we’ve ever photographed in Melbourne. We met the guests just before the ceremony at the registry office. There were three good friends and the couple themselves, which made the wedding a very personal and intimate affair. We had as much fun with this intimate wedding as we do with weddings that have 500 guests! … (just without the stress that comes with it).
The parents sent some flowers to the registry office, which was very sweet as well as a bit sad as they couldn’t be part of the celebrations. So it was a bit more pressure on my part as the Wedding Photographer, knowing that I have to create some great memories and document the day for everyone to enjoy after the wedding day!
Wedding photos at the Westin Hotel on Collins Street
A bottle of champagne was opened in the Treasury Gardens before heading to the Westin Hotel for a High tea with the wedding guests. We walked past the luxurious Bvlgari store where the groom enquired for some wedding rings and jewellery before the big wedding day. He seriously had no idea about the price range, but if anybody from the store reads this … he will be back one day to finalise the purchase!
The Westin Hotel was the perfect wedding venue for our couple to celebrate their marriage with their friends. We all enjoyed some sparkling Chandon (where I photographed the McLaren Honda team) and a delicious High tea. A stylish finish for a wonderful small wedding.
Congratulations Nora & Luca! It was great fun photographing the two of you … all the best for your start in Switzerland!
