Lifestyle Photography Portraits

What a trip! Of course we usually travel for our photography sessions throughout Melbourne. But this one was a bit different. We went to New York to capture some lifestyle photographs for the launch of this years Caulfield Cup Carnival in Melbourne. This years theme is “New York”. And what better place to photograph than in the Big Apple itself. A long flight – crazy hours but lots of fun. For this shoot we combined Aussie sports personalities living in New York with an Australian jockey – who ran second in last years cup.

We had the please to create portraits of Mitch Creek, Lachlan Edwards and Ben Melham. The combination of a professional basketballer, Amercian footballer and a jockey was a winning combination. Photographing high profile sports people is something we don’t do every day.  Photographing them infront of the stunning backdrop of the New York skyline is something special.

Social media content – fast delivery

Social media is more and more important for marketing of major events. It gets harder and harder to create engaging content for brands. All the boxes were ticked with this shoot. A stunning backdrop, amazing weather (clouds always help to make the sky more interesting for photography) and a perfect fun shoot. The shots we created are used for social media and marketing. But we usually don’t limit the usage with commercial licensing fees.

Fast turnaround was important for this project. So after the photoshoot we usually went straight on our laptops to process and edit the images to deliver them straight to the client.

Portraits of Mitch Creek

First on location was Mitch – so we had plenty of time to watch him and his amazing basketball skills. The professional basketballer played at the time for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA. We got him in his jersey and basketball. To add the link to the Melbourne races we added the trophy (how were we scared to scratch it). The skyline backdrop at the location did it’s rest – what a location. This must have been the most amazing basketball court in the world. The best!

The location was in a public space so we moved around a bit to avoid too many people in the shots. The sun was harsh and not ideal but it suited the location and purpose of the photoshoot. Lots of fun. Looking forward seeing you back in Melbourne.

Lifestyle portraits – Lachlan Edwards

Lachlan plays for the New York Jets. Not Aussie Rules what we prefer here in Melbourne. The ball looks similar but different – don’t let me explain the differences I am no expert.  No American Football. And boy can this guy kick the ball. Impressive. We used the basketball field as an American Football ground … of course this was not big enough. The green sports jersey suited the urban look of the skyline and was perfect for the photoshoot.

The Caulfield Cup was again a main “photoprop” in the shoot to get the connection from New York to Melbourne.

Lifestyle portraits – Ben Melham

And the third of our sports people was Ben Melham from Melbourne. the professional jockey cam second in the cup last year. So it was special for him to get his hands on the cup … maybe it will work out this year?

We had lots of fun watching them having a friendly basketball match. We didn’t count points as it would be a bit of unfair competition. and also did some group shots. The trio was also interviewed for the press and some video snippets were produced.

Creative & Fun
