Photography for small businesses
Photographing a small business in Melbourne
We got approached by an artisan bakery to create some photographs of the bakery and the production process. The shoot was done in the morning after most of the products where produced but the bakers where still around finishing up. Putting up lights and photography equipment in a shop during the busy times is challenging so choosing the right time is important. You don’t want to be in the way of the normal daily operations. The photography was done in an indoor space which had fluorescent light so we opted to use our own lights to get a moody feel and more darker backgrounds.
Photography of shops in Melbourne
We took photographs of the interior of the Melbourne bakery and the barista serving coffee. A long exposure helped to blur out the customers and giving the photo an artistic flair.
Part of the brief was to showcase the baking process in photographs. Also adding some creative portraits – the flour shot. It took us a while to get the right amount of flour for this photograph. Learning by doing – photography is always a challenge and not everything works out the first time. For this reason it is sometimes difficult to quote a job by the hour – you want a quote for the photographic endresult – sometimes a shot might take far longer than you expect.

We also added photos of how the bakery produces their products. A industrial type of phootshoot in an artisan bakery. The photos all have dark backgrounds which where achieved by artificial light which we brought to the client. We followed the process how to make the dough in pictures. Creating the product is an art. You see all the work involved and the effort put in. Each of the products is handmade and baked with love – so are ourt photographs.
